New Light on American Photography

New Light on American Photography
Monday, March 25, 2013 (All day)

A one-day symposium in Paris gathering an international roster of thirteen scholars of photography and American cultural history to collectively consider the problem of American photography in its myriad applications from the 1860s to the present.

Papers will address a wide range of subjects and questions both methodological and historiographic, offering revisionary assessments of familiar themes as well as fresh accounts of new archival discoveries to mark recent shifts in this increasingly internationalized and energized field of study and practice. The conference is presented with the cooperation of the Terra Foundation, the Institut Universitaire de France, Université Paris Ouest Nanterre, and the Institute National d’Histoire de l’Art.
